SALMON FLIES

Okay the Colorado was in run off. But then they turned off the tap. Flows dropped 600 cfs over two days and the water cleared (okay its only 2 feet) and the Salmon Hatch was going great guns. Today the hatch was in the early to middle stages at Paul Gilbert DOW area. There were quite a few flying around, but still quite a few nymphs attached to the rocks near shore. I probably would have been better off near the Parshall Hole, but ... Hey I had to share this stretch of the river with absolutely NO ONE!!!

Okay, time for the basic information. You should be throwing Orange Stimulators or Improved Sofa Pillows or what every your favorite Salmon Fly in a size 4-6 is. Remember pound the banks. Almost all of my hits where within 24 inches of the bank.

The fish also tend not to key into the dries until the afternoon. If your not getting any action keep moving, and throw it closer to shore.
