Wind: Gusty, anywhere from dead calm to 20 MPH. In general usually windy with short periods of calm.
Temp: Mid 50's
River: Clear with flows from 90-70 cfs. They dropped the flow at about noon.
Water Temp: High 30's to low 40's

Well it look like it was going to be a windy day and it was. A reasonably strong hatch of BWO's sz 22-24 started at about 11:00am. A bit later (12:30 pm) a small hatch of PMD's started. Both hatches only brought only a few fish to the surface. There seemed to be at least some bugs on the water most of the afternoon. For a change I spent the day nymphing, and I used the same patterns all day. For whatever reason the fish seemed to prefer a size 16 tan San Juan worm over a size 14, but preferred a size 14 egg ala muck over the size 16. In any case I was lazy and did not experiment with a lot of flies.
Both patterns were successful. The fish appear to have just about completed spawning. a few were still on the redds, but very few. For a change very few people were on the river.
