Fished the upper quality water on Sunday. It was not too crowded, but probably will be soon. The flows are very low (~30cfs) and gin clear. The water as always at this time of year was very cold. The weather, sunny and warm with an occasional breeze. Started off at about 12:30 fishing an egg pattern with a Zebra Midge. Landed a nice 15 inch Brown on the third cast, but not a ton of action. I then switched to a Brown Mono Midge. That did the trick for the next couple hours.

At about 3:30 a very small black caddis hatch started. Which I had a hard time convincing myself was caddis, but ... the rises were hard, and after some investigation ... In any case I never did quite unlock this hatch. If I go back tomorrow (which I probably will), I'll bring more appropriate flies. In any case last year I did see a small gray micro caddis hatch prior to run off. So don't be suprised if you encounter one also.

As always thing can vary a lot on this river (even within a mile). So pay attention. There was still a bit of ice around, especially in places that are not getting a lot of sun.
