Lost Lake (near Chambers):

Weather: beautiful, partly cloudy:
Water Temp: frozen. That's right ice.
I thought the DOW was out of step and that this lake would be open by now. Nope, there was virtually no open water. My guess is that it will be another 10-14 days before the ice is off. Chambers is also still iced over.

Honholtz/Laramie River:

Fished Lake number 3:
Weather: Partly cloudy, a few light sprinkles. Windy off and on.
Water temp: ~low 40's
Clarity: very dingy near the inlet, otherwise 3-4 feet.
It has been 2 years since I've fished any still water and probably 4 years since I've fished these lakes. So I went to the old trusted wooly bugger. No luck. I saw a few rises, so I switched to a Partridge Spent Caddis - Olive size 16. That did the trick. The Cut-bows were in great shape. Very fat 16 inches and up.

There were a lot of people on the river and Lake number 2. Lake number 2 was probably recently stocked. I did not fish the river, but when I checked it out upstream of Rose Ranch it was quite clear. Some of the flow is being diverted through the tunnel to the Poudre, so it was not extremely high. My guess is 80-100cfs.

Cache La Poudre Upper quality section:

I only fished it for about 45 minutes at sunset. The Water color was tea stained (but not muddy) and running about ~250 cfs near the hatchery. Above the "tunnel" the flow is significantly less, because it is above the diversion from the Laramie.

I only landed one fish in the 45 minutes I was there. A 17 inch rainbow that took a sz 20 Sparkle RS2 - Grey.
Run off is just starting on this river so it will probably get dirtier over the next 7-14 days, before it starts to clear.
