I went back to Cheesman Sunday afternoon. While it was a bit crowded when I got there, people started leaving and then the BWO hatch started at about 1:00pm. The water was quite muddy and flow was only about 40 cfs. Suprisingly even with the murky conditions the fish started rising (the hatch was quite thick in places). Olive Quill duns about size 20 did the trick. I also landed fish with my old standbys: Caddis Pupa (cream body soft hackle) and Sparkle RS2 olive when the fish quit rising.

Remember when the conditions are muddy put on something the fish at least have a chance to see. F/B Hares Ear, San Juan Worms, larger Copper Johns, larger RS2's.

That reminds me. Eggs were not effective a week ago, but at the end of this week they most definately will be as the fish really start spawning.

I was suprised even with basically all the snow gone the water was still very muddy. Perhaps it was because 10 million people were trampling through the water.

By the way the fish are now on the redds so be CAREFUL. Saw one guy fishing to them, and he did not even realize he was casting to fish on redds. Oh well.

By the way, the hatches have often been rather late at Cheesman this spring. Sometimes not starting until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I don't recall them being this late last year.
